Kick-start to the new year

27th January 2003

In just six months, from no gigs to winning Yousef's Circus competition at the end of last year, James Weston announces two residencies, kick-starting 2003 in magnificent form; Delish in Leicester and FUNKtion in Aylesbury.

James looks back on playing at Circus and the motivation and confidence it's installed in him, "The crowd was one of a kind, I couldn't have hoped for a better reception; that coupled with everyone at Chibuku and Circus being incredibly friendly and accommodating.  It was great to meet Yousef because he's such a friendly guy and it's so easy to see that his friendliness has created a unique and superb vibe in Circus.  I was allocated a 11-12.30 slot, yeah, extended to one and a half hours since one of the other winners sadly had to pull out.  It was perfect, the venue filled up rapidly and by the time I came to play there was a full compliment in the bar area where we were.  I have to thank the guy that asked me to play Shakedown's At Night (Kid Crème remix), because as soon as it dropped, there was a tremendous roar of pleasure from the crowd, well, I did give 'em a few teasers of the intro in the mix!  And there was me thinking that it was growing old from over-play; which is good, that means I still have things to learn, it keeps me on my toes!"
